What are the rules?

  1. Knit We Call Them Pirates, Pirate Mittens, or an object of your own design using a We Call Them Pirates chart for the pattern motif.
  2. Sign up by January 15. (You don’t have to wait until then to get started!)
  3. Post your plans (yarn, colors, etc.) & progress.
  4. Finish by March 15 & post your finished object.

All the finishers will be entered to win a fabulous prize, TBA.

Can I use my own pirate or skull chart?

Nuh-uh. You aren’t limited to just the hat or mitten patterns, but you everyone should use the same chart for the pattern motif.

How do I join?

To join, add your comment here and I’ll add you as a user.  If you’re already registered at WordPresss.com, be sure to comment with the same email, so you can skip the registration step. If you’re not already registered on WordPress.com, you’ll get an invite email. When you register (it takes 5 seconds) & verify, you *should* automatically become a contributer to the We Call Them Pirates knitalong. Then you can post away. (I say should, because I’ve had to add several manually, but I usually check several times a day. And if you have ants in your pants, you can always hound me.)

Why isn’t my name on the sidebar?

I have to add the names manually. If your name is still MIA after a few days, drop me a line at [nikol at thriftyknitter dot com].

How do I add my pictures to the flickr pool?

We have a flickr group, too: http://www.flickr.com/groups/wecallthempirates/. All the pictures in the pool will go into rotation in that flickr banner in the sidebar.

To add your photos to the pool, first you’ll need to be a flickr member, then you’ll need to join the group.  

To add your photos to the pool, go to any individual photo page and look for this icon above your picture:  

Then click it for a list of your groups, and select We Call them Pirates.

Sure! It will help inspire us/give color ideas.

Should I use a special tag/title on my knitalong photos?

Tag your knitalong photos with wecallthempirates and  try to include “We Call Them Pirates knitalong” in the title or notes so all yer knitalong mateys will know.

How do I use pictures in a post?

Go to your picture page on flickr or wherever your images are hosted. Then right click or click-hold on your picture and select Properties (mac users: is that the same on macs?), and select and copy the address, then click OK.

When you post, click this icon , and paste the URL you copied into the field that says Image URL and click Insert. Ta da!
