I’ve finally finished the WCTP Mittens: Fingerless Stylee.
Please pardon the non-blockedness. I just threw them on the scanner and hit Go.
These are a late ChristmaHanuKwanza gift, and I was itching to make a pair for myself…but that’s not going to happen real soon.
Here, it’s been in the low to mid 80s recently. In fact, today it’s going to top off at 90 degrees. Ladies and gents, Mitts Season—in the desert, at least—is over.
What might happen is that I make a pair during the summer and squirrel them away for that morning I wake up in October or November, get ready to go to work, open my front door, close it immediately and go running for The Basket of Warm Things where I’ll find some cool fingerless mitts just waiting…

Here’s fingerless mitten number one, from the back. The thumb is almost finished. In fact, the thumb is what all that circular-needly stuff is about. (Anyone else knitting using the Magic Loop method?)
I was going to try to knit initials rather than the year in the palm of the 2nd mitten…but I’ve jettisoned that idea. The palm will read “2007″.
(My deepest apologies for that image. It’s scanned…and the piece is not yet blocked, hence the utter wonkiness of the stitches.)
First skelly, done. One more and then the border, then 1/2″ or so of the ribbing.
A question for my fellow mitt-makers: what with all of the mad stranding going on, do you knit a liner as you do with the WCTP hat?
I’m wondering because though the recipient of this particular pair doesn’t wear rings, I’m thinking ahead to my own pair.
I wear rings and I can see some snaggage (is that even a word?) happening.
Any ideas? Tips? Do you knit a lining or just just take your chances?
Greetings mates!
I’ve done 3 WCTP hats so far. They went to my sis and a friend for ChristmaHanuKwanzaa. I apologize for this picture. It’s 2 of the hats: the black and purple one is made with Cascade 220 Superwash, the blue and white one is Debbie Bliss Wool Cotton.
I actually had enough yarn to make one more and I’m making it for moi.
I started a pair of mittens, but instead of making them full mits, I’m stopping after the 2nd skull, repeating about 1″ of ribbing and making them fingerless gloves.
The next pictures I post will be scans as I don’t have a digital camera.
